May — The Quiet Season
Wreck beach at sunrise
By May, Port Stephens begins to breathe a little differently.
The crowds thin, the mornings become cooler and suddenly familiar places feel almost private again.
There’s something beautiful about walking along a beach with hardly another person around.
No rush.
No noise.
Just waves rolling in, birds going about their business and that wonderful feeling that the whole place has slowed down for a moment.
We sometimes think excitement is where life happens.
But some of the best parts happen quietly.
A conversation.
A cup of coffee.
A walk.
Nights take on a different feel- and it’s usually at this time I’ll do my annual trek to Zenith Beach to do my Milky Way over Tomaree shot. Of course if I waited till later in the Winter I wouldn’t need to go out at stupid o’ clock to capture it- but it’s what I do.
