June — Sometimes You Just Have to Climb the Hill
Tomaree Coastal walk (at the Fingal Bay end)
Winter mornings have a special talent for making a warm bed seem like mankind’s greatest invention.
Then somebody suggests climbing a hill before sunrise.
Clearly, good judgement has temporarily left the building.
But up you go.
One step at a time.
Breathing harder than you remember.
Wondering why mountains never seem as steep in photographs.
Then you reach the top and look out across Port Stephens.
The ocean stretches to the horizon. The first light reaches the coastline.
And suddenly the climb makes sense.
Life can be a bit like that.
The view often arrives after the difficult bit.
